Democracy Dies in Darkness delves into the seismic political and societal shift that was caused by the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Directed by Sarah and Leah Talabi and produced by Changemakers Studios, Democracy Dies in Darkness will be available to stream on Prime Video on April 21, 2023. 

 

Democracy Dies In Darkness, co-directed by Sarah and Leah Talabi, follows the decades-long “tug of war “ between the reproductive rights movement and the United States government. Candid interviews with women who have chosen to have an abortion provide more insight into how the right to choose is, for some, a life-saving choice. On a larger scale, the film examines how the overturn of Roe v Wade will cause a domino effect of gender and race inequality that will ripple for decades in American society and the world. The purpose of the film is to serve as a time capsule to document and preserve the voices of the women who relentlessly fought for reproductive freedom in America. The film includes interviews with pro-choice activists and protest footage spanning three decades: from 1970 to 2022. Commentary from reproductive rights thought leaders and politicians that are champions of reproductive health, give insightful perspective on the ongoing battle for women’s right to choose.
